A slot is a dynamic placeholder on a Web page that either waits for content to be added (passive slots) or calls out to the renderer to fill it in. Slots can be used to control the flow of an application and also to manage how data is presented.
The term “slot” also refers to a position or an allocation of something, such as an appointment or a time slot on the Internet. It can also mean a place in a sequence or series, such as a numbered seat on an airplane or a position within an organization or hierarchy.
In computer science, a slot is an operation issue and data path machinery surrounding a set of one or more execution units (also called functional units). A slot may contain multiple queues, each holding a single pending instruction, or it may be a simple FIFO. Slots are common in very long instruction word (VLIW) computers and in processors that support multithreading.
A slot is also a logical container for rendering elements on the screen, such as headers and footers. The V-slot syntax makes it easy to encapsulate reusable logic and delegate visual output to separate render functions. The
